The Many Uses & Perks Of Getting Dental Veneers
Veneers are some of the most versatile cosmetic options out there because they completely cover the front portion of your teeth that shows while smiling, kind of like how fake fingernails cover your real nails. But unlike fake fingernails, veneers are made to last for a long time if you care for them properly. With optimum oral hygiene, they could last for a decade and a half or longer!
Patients get veneers from us for a variety of reasons. If you have any of the following smile flaws (or even a combination of them), we may be able to beautify your smile with this cosmetic options:
- Minor chips in your teeth
- Small cracks in your teeth
- Irregularly shaped or worn-down teeth
- Small gaps between your teeth
- Teeth that look just a little bit crooked but enough so to be noticeable
- Stubborn stains or discoloration
- Teeth with uneven surfaces
A lot of patients even choose to use veneers as “instant orthodontics” if they want to make their teeth appear ideally straight. Others get them on all of the teeth that show when they smile so their grin will be very consistent looking and completely flawless.
One major perk of veneers is that they can be designed and placed very quickly considering how dramatic an effect they can have on your appearance. In a lot of cases, we will be able to complete your treatment in as few as two visits to our office!
Veneers are also very easy to care for as alluded to above. You just need to maintain the same optimum oral hygiene habits you do with your natural teeth. If you’re not already, you should:
- Brush your teeth with a soft-bristled toothbrush and toothpaste or gel for two minutes each time, at least twice a day and after meals if possible
- Floss between all of your chompers once a day at minimum
- If recommended or desired, swish around as directed some mouthwash or rinse that has been approved by the American Dental Association
- Visit your dentist every six months for a professional dental cleaning and a thorough dental exam to verify that you don’t have any damage
Many of our patients have also commented on how much they love that veneers are not nearly as invasive as other options out there. For example, if someone wanted to make all of their teeth look stunningly beautiful and consistent in the past, they might have gotten dental crowns on all of their teeth. But unlike crowns, which require reshaping of your whole tooth, veneers only require the removal of a thin layer of enamel from the front of your teeth.
Know What To Expect When You Get Veneers
The process for getting veneers on your teeth is pretty simple to understand.
First, we will examine your teeth thoroughly and speak with you about what you want your new smile to look like. If you have any questions, feel free to ask at this time or later in the process.
Then, we will prepare your teeth for the veneers by removing a small amount of enamel.
To ensure that your veneers fit your smile just right, we will take impressions of your teeth before having them made.
Then, we will simply bond your veneers to your teeth and make any final adjustments as needed.
In order to get veneers, your teeth will need to be healthy and strong. While veneers can help strengthen teeth, they are primarily intended as a cosmetic service and are not intended as a restorative dentistry treatment for damaged teeth.
