3 Ways to Keep Your Children’s Teeth Healthy

New Patient Exam with X-Ray Special

Parents and guardians want their children to have the best care possible. Our Racine dental office has been helping children achieve healthier and more beautiful smiles for decades.

Most of the staff members at North Bay Dental have children of their own, so we know how to treat your child and make them comfortable in the chair. Today we want to share three things we can do for your children’s smile. We can treat children of all ages, and even provide assistance for teething or thumb-sucking. We recommend that you start bring your child to the dentist by the age of 1. We’ll start with light cleanings, and then move to other preventive treatments as your child gets older. Give us a call today at 262-595-6498 to book your child’s first appointment.

  1. Provide Elite Prevention Services

It’s always cheaper to prevent dental problems than to spend money on restorations. At North Bay Dental, we can provide dental cleanings and exams for your youngsters and even fluoride treatments or dental sealants. Fluoride is a substance proven to reduce the risk of tooth decay and even restore damaged enamel. Most toothpastes have fluoride, but we like to give children an additional fluoride treatments during their visits. When the teeth are fully erupted, we can provide dental sealants, thin layers of plastic that are placed on teeth to lock out cavities.

  1. Fit Your Active Child With an Athletic Mouthguard

If your child is active in sports, you need to consider a custom mouthguard. You can find a mouthguard at just about every drugstore or athletics store in America, but those mouthguards are not uniform to your smile. A mouthguard that is not fit to your smile cannot effectively protect your teeth.

At North Bay Dental, we’ll fashion a perfect mouthguard for your child to wear. The American Dental Association recommends that you wear a mouthguard for all contact sports and even high-impact sports (basketball, volleyball, or baseball). Bottom line, if there is a possibility of colliding with other players, your child needs to wear a mouthguard. Dental emergencies can be extremely painful and costly.

  1. Implement An Oral Health Routine

Parents perhaps play the biggest role in their children’s oral health. They need to develop a routine for their children to stick, but parents can also learn a great deal during their children’s dental visits. Our staff will show parents how to brush their children’s teeth (if the children are infants or toddler) and even provide thumb-sucking solutions. The more you know about your children’s dental health, the more likely it is that they’ll have great oral health.
